strong cotton thread with a large needle

Strong, undyed cotton thread and a darning or trussing needle, used to string nuts for churchkhela.

Undyed, unwaxed cotton string, such as kitchen twine or crochet cotton, is sold in kitchenware shops, haberdasheries and craft stores, and a large darning or trussing needle can be found in the same places. Cotton holds the dipped coating better than smooth synthetic thread and does not shed colour.

Substitute:

Cotton kitchen twine works just as well; avoid synthetic or dyed thread.
